A new trailer officially announcing Gone with the Wind's April 27 release (CCTV-8, Youku), this time highlighting the crime and mystery aspects. It's set to have 28 episodes that one can only hope they maximize with minimal onscreen gendered abuse/violence scenes... I also hope that the leads can be as shady as they look in the trailers. Be straight, do crimes!!!

Edit:

New trailer for 微暗之火 (Gone with the Wind), drama adaptation of a problematic age-gap novel by Jiu Yuexi starring Tong Yao as a woman trapped in an abusive relationship and Zhang Xincheng as the younger boy who wants to save her. IIRC the ML has been aged up a bit for the drama? But it's still a questionable dynamic.

CW: themes of domestic violence and abuse, sexual assault, suicide

T/N: The quote should say “Two roads diverge in a yellow wood”, not whatever… sleep-deprived mishmash I typed. There’s also some dialogue where I don’t know who is talking to whom which affects the correctness of the translation.

Zhao Haohong, who played Hong He in the Hikaru no Go cdrama and previously played alongside Zhang Xincheng in My Huckleberry Friends, is also in this. \o/

I might give this a shot if I have the spoons—it looks potentially bingeable but also very dicey.

Reuploads of old works for friends + backup purposes—some of my videos on Vimeo that have music from mainland China are getting contentID'd (and thus blocked when I don't replace/mute the music), it's weird. The ones with music from Hong Kong/Taiwan artists (Teresa Teng, Mayday, G.E.M.) seem safe so far but one can't get too complacent.

These are all old works from 2020 and early 2021, when I was still new to vidding and subtitling . Actually all subtitled videos (minus the ISMM trailer, which required some heavier editing work) on this post were done on my phone and with some regret because I've begun to detest typing on my phone (to the point that I have installed my mobile messaging apps on my computer so I can reply to messages there)... At the same time I hate opening up DaVinci Resolve on desktop so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

as a sort of celebratory gift for Valentine's Day and CNY because I've otherwise gone inactive... And """penance""" for my random ~off-brand~ reuploads lol.

Carpool karaoke with Zhang Xincheng, Guo Yunqi, and Wang Youshuo (short)

(with a note/erratum for 2:54 that what ZXC calls "beer Americano" is actually sparkling Americano. Like he says it's beer, but the video briefly flashes some text on the screen that says it's sparkling Americano lol.)

I swear I did consume other media in June, but for now... Zhang Xincheng. :P

    Subs:
  • Lyric video: Zhang Xincheng, "自言自語 (Talking to Myself)"
  • The Heart of Genius trailer
  • Various interview and BTS clips of The Murder in Kairoutei (2022 cdrama | Deng Jiajia, Zhang Xincheng)

Relevant update: I've levelled up my subbing game by adding subtle text animations haha.

I kind of feel that I'm going to have to set up a separate blog mirror/carrd for my ~ZXC content~ because my fan account is getting too unwieldy (in spite of attempts to maintain my Moments), but idk.

The actual The Murder in Kairoutei cdrama is extremely flat (badly structured "mysteries" with no sense of tension or suspense) and bad in unentertaining ways, but I've been enjoying the actors' activities and joint interviews! They actually bring me genuine joy. Deng Jiajia is too cute, haha.

Trailers for both The Corridor Pavilion (12-episode Murder in Kairotei adaptation) and The Heart of Genius (adaptation of a book about mathematics and a girl who travels through parallel universes to fix her life) are out; Zhang Xincheng's new song 自言自語/Talking to Myself is now on Spotify and iTunes! \o/

    The Heart of Genius trailer:
Cast: Lei Jiayin, Zhang Zifeng, Zhang Xincheng, Wang Shengdi (MY FAVORITE CHILD)

English subbed here (I can't embed the video because it's on Twitter).

The Corridor Pavilion (Murder in Kairotei) trailer (CN + EN):
    Cast: Deng Jiajia, Zhang Xincheng

Since The Corridor Pavilion came out yesterday, my Twitter feed has been nothing but clips, gifs, and screencaps of ZXC taking off his shirt and making out with women. XD I actually didn't expect the show to be so sexy lol and I'm not even sure what his role is (it doesn't seem to match any of the characters in the original story?) but 2 YEARS WE WAITED FOR FUCKBOY!ZXC.

Also subbed a 20-second The Corridor Pavilion behind-the-scenes clip, more of a typesetting exercise. I used Lumafusion (iOS). I'm sure there are apps that let you do ~text effects~ more easily. I guess I'll have to explore so more and see if they fit my very specific needs and process. XD

(My GIFs are not up to my usual standard anymore. Oh well...)

I was a bit curious about both the original novels for The Heart of Genius and Kairotei, but 1) I DO NOT want to read about math, 2) there doesn't seem to be an English translation for Kairotei, only Chinese? Hmm. Maybe I should just watch a Japanese movie adaptation, or wait for the Chinese movie adaptation (starring Liu Mintao and Ren Suxi) that's set to come out this year. It seems like a revenge story + locked room mystery combo, I'm just not sure which medium would work best for my brain.
