Reuploads of old works for friends + backup purposes—some of my videos on Vimeo that have music from mainland China are getting contentID'd (and thus blocked when I don't replace/mute the music), it's weird. The ones with music from Hong Kong/Taiwan artists (Teresa Teng, Mayday, G.E.M.) seem safe so far but one can't get too complacent.

These are all old works from 2020 and early 2021, when I was still new to vidding and subtitling . Actually all subtitled videos (minus the ISMM trailer, which required some heavier editing work) on this post were done on my phone and with some regret because I've begun to detest typing on my phone (to the point that I have installed my mobile messaging apps on my computer so I can reply to messages there)... At the same time I hate opening up DaVinci Resolve on desktop so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Carpool karaoke with Zhang Xincheng, Guo Yunqi, and Wang Youshuo (short)

(with a note/erratum for 2:54 that what ZXC calls "beer Americano" is actually sparkling Americano. Like he says it's beer, but the video briefly flashes some text on the screen that says it's sparkling Americano lol.)

Happy Mid-Autumn!

Spent a fair amount of the weekend with family because relatives had flown in for a wedding the following day (my cousin's cousin). Also read 繁星, Bing Xin's collected poetry fragments, because Zhang Xincheng was doing a reading for the Mid-Autumn Festival Gala... ended up subbing it myself and reading the English translation (book link: A Maze of Stars and Spring Water), a worthwhile exercise since the original text was still pretty fresh in my head and I could follow along the translation choices. Posting the original text + translations here for my reference!

My translation:

Idk if this makes sense, but I consider myself more of a subber than a translator, so generally I don't think my "translations" hold up in text form haha. I love how the video format allows me to disregard form and line breaks, because as much as I enjoy reading freeform poetry I have nooooo understanding of the craft.

I don't really have any notes, other than me giving up on finding synonyms for "deep" so I subbed it with words for distance, and that the line 灿烂光中的休息处 is very much open to interpretation, so I went with the image that was in my head when I was reading it.

My translation (line by line with the original Chinese text) )

Getting weepy just writing about it!!!! :((((

HAPPY NEW YEAR!, I would like to immortalize this top-tier New Year's greeting, from one Zhang Xincheng fan to another:

I spent parts of January trying to declutter both my room and my mind from the negative thoughts and urges I didn't want to carry into the new year, but didn't quite succeed. However! I managed to organize my cables/adapters, and have been clinging to the single habit of putting them away, even as I accumulate disorder everywhere else. It's nice to have that one thing, at least! And to be able to know where my earphones and chargers are.

(I also bought little jewelry pouches for my necklaces to prevent them from getting lost, tangled, or tarnished.)

Second attempt at vidding--the first one was in 2018, and it took me an entire month to put out something that was barely over a minute long. I used a trial version of Adobe Aftereffects last time, learning as I went, but I can uhhh no longer get AE to work for me? So I downloaded Davinci Resolve 15 (free) and I like it! I don't vid so I don't really have any basis of comparison, but for simple vidding with typesetting (like in the video) I found it pretty intuitive to use. I guess it helps that I've used AfterEffects that one time so I have a rough idea of keyframing basics so I can get the type to behave how I want it to.

I'm not very sure what other features it has. I still don't know how color grading works (took me forever to desaturate the Dear Missy clips--if I had to replicate a type of coloring, I wouldn't be able to do it), and if I can do any kind of masking in it. There's a fancier paid version that has more bells and whistles and motion graphics functionality, but I probably don't need those?

Anyway I'm trying to be better at documenting my process, so:

This is a list (with summaries/descriptions and rough translations) of some Qihun fancomics that I really liked, mostly found on Lofter.

As a courtesy to the original artists, please don't repost any of these fancomics, or edit in the translations.

Disclaimer: My main objective is just to organize and summarize what I read/liked and make it easier for me to rec them. XD I'm definitely not a native speaker, my Chinese is at a pretty basic level, so I recommend heavily salting the accuracy of any ~translation~ I do. I mark the parts that I'm very unsure of. Feel free to comment or @ me on Twitter when I get stuff wrong. If you have alternate translations, I'd also be happy to link them here!

A super rough transcript/translation of the post-canon VR game that I did during the holiday break and forgot to post!

If anyone can tell me what Shi Guang says at 01:47 in the first video, that would be great. XD Edit: Apparently "等等,我跟不上你的思路" (thank you so much, [twitter.com profile] 50percentcharge!)

This is one of my favorite comics! It's post-canon emotional hurt/comfort with pre-relationship Shi Guang/Yu Liang, and illustrated so beautifully. Shi Guang wakes up, and wakes up again.

    Note:
I have NO idea how to translate”人間造媽機” but from my understanding, it pertains to someone who molds everyone else into a mother figure. So I just went with "baby energy" because I didn't know how to phrase it LOL.

Pre(?)-relationship Bai Chuan/Fang Xu and Shi Guang/Yu Liang.

A missing scene from the “you’re his initiator/detonator/catalyst” (contract-signing) episode. Fang Xu and Shi Guang end up bonding over being someone's """detonating agent""". XD

(As my friends/mutuals have discussed, the more appropriate translation/localization for “起泡劑” is probably "catalyst", but in this comic it helps to know the literal meaning.)

    CAPTION: After the victory party

TITLE: “He has someone to fire him up, I have someone to calm me down” (The words used are “his initiator/catalyst” vs “my tranquilizer/pacifier” lol. Implying that BC puts FX to sleep???? XDDDD)

This is considerably above my reading level. I've noted the parts I'm just guessing at with brackets like:

    Hokuto Cup fix-it!

    Note:
My Chinese isn't very good, so I'm not very sure if OP changed the pair go tournament to be an additional event on top of the regular team tournaments (in show canon, the team tournament is changed into a pair go tournament), but I assume this is the case since OP draws them in Korea together.
