Hotlinking images from Bluesky because I'm lazy but want to document things in a less ephemeral place while I figure out my travel journaling situation. ^^; One day I will regret not reuploading the pics on DW but that day is not today.

IN CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER:

Roadside scallion pancakes, Taoyuan St.
45 NTD without egg / 55 NTD with egg

The fried egg inside was interesting, but after a while I 吃膩了, maybe because I asked the auntie (who was very friendly and supportive in spite of my language struggles haha) to hold the hot sauce which could have cut through the grease a bit.

7-Eleven Honey Herbal Drink

I love grass jelly! But I did not enjoy this. QAQ I did like the bottled barley tea that I also got from 7-Eleven but did not take a pic of.

Lan Xiang Ting Thai Hotpot

My friend really wanted to introduce me to this place. It's right outside the train station, so it's very convenient for meet-ups! It had individual pots (we each got yin-yang, one green curry broth, one... non-spicy broth), a la carte meat, self-service sides and drinks (I had an excessive amount of cha yen and then some barley tea to cap off the meal), and a one-hour time limit that they may or may not enforce...

I have 0 spice tolerance but this was my favorite meal in the trip (not counting the black sesame chiffon, which is a world of its own), maybe because I was catching up with a friend for the first time in a while and eating at a pace that was perfect for me (slow).

Minle Street - Swordfish rice noodles

A stall with tables, beside a congee spot. Plopped myself here because I saw older locals and figured this was my speed. XD It was way too hot for soup, but soup also saves me the trouble of getting up to buy a drink (from what I've noticed, they don't typically serve water or drinks in TW—at least not in the places I go to ajksl;ajfa) and saves me from dehydration haha. Most importantly, small servings are available, which is Perfect! For me!!!

(Overall, Nothing special, but noodles were nice and it was an enjoyable quiet breakfast and near a souvenir shop.)

老阿伯 GRANDPAng' SOUP, Dihua Street - Mixed thick soup

This place had an English sign and an English menu and had a lot of customers. How can you go wrong with that? XD The squidballs and fishballs were not what I expected...they seemed to have meat stuffing? I prefer my balls unstuffed. XD

Daodaochen Bubble Tea - Tieguanyin tea with special foam

This particular drink doesn't have customizable sweetness that I can remember, and is not sweet at all, but very refreshing on a hot day. I liked the texture in the toppings, very fun.

Nap Tea - Roasted oolong tea with cheese foam

THEIR LOGO IS SO CUTE!!! I would go again just to see the sloth!!! And the cheese foam was so good!!! You can choose sweet or savory foam, and this one was sweet but still satisfyingly cheesy and hit the spot. But I forgot to add toppings. ;___;

7-Eleven tea eggs (of course)

Stinky tofu with SALTED! EGG!!!!, Ningxia Night Market

Told my friend I wanted to try stinky tofu and she got me this... It had salted egg sauce, to my undying delight. :') (Verdict: I don't have strong feelings about stinky tofu because it's just tofu for me, and also too filling, but it's not as stinky or strong-tasting as I thought it would be. The salted egg definitely elevated it for me ahahaha)

Sweet potato balls with plum powder, Ningxia Night Market

I was really curious about this (I like sweet potato!) and ended up disliking it. I was dumb and did not realize that 甘梅 was just... literally kiamoy............. the sweet/savory combo wasn't working for me...... And even if I'd gotten different flavored powder, I didn't enjoy the balls either...... They were very hollow, but still heavy?? I was so upset about this that I had to stop at a 7-Eleven and get a real sweet potato kjasljfa;fja

雙月 Moon Moon Food

The sesame noodles were a [twitter.com profile] nermida_ rec!!! I had my friend order this because I have no spice tolerance. XD I tried a bite for ScienceTM and got the instant take-home version for my brother and it was surprisingly restaurant-level!!! Very nice noodles, very rich and flavorful sauce. :')

Supposedly this is a Michelin Bib Gourmand place... Prices are very affordable, and ingredients are high quality, though I'm not sure there's an English menu.

Sea bass with clams soup—what I actually ordered. I like fish, and I like clam soup, and the ingredients tasted fresh. :') It was so big though haha. The in-house "grass jelly cloud" drink (where the clouds were some kind of black fungus) was soothing for the throat, not too sweet.

Oysters were fresh and sweet. :)

水餃 near my friend's apartment

水餃 my beloved....... I'm a kuchay girl through and through, but this place had a lot of other fillings so we decided to be adventurous... I really liked the ones with scallions!!! The ones with mushrooms sat too heavily on me. But all were good.

This giant bowl of wonton noodle soup...... I did not finish this, and still it kept me full for the rest of the day. (It was otherwise delicious, especially since it was a rainy day.)

What my friend ordered a.k.a. what I wish I'd ordered because the serving was more manageable LOL.

日豐企業社
HIGHLIGHT OF MY TIP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Another [twitter.com profile] nermida_ recommendation because in Nermida we trust.

The black sesame chiffon was indeed out of this world........... If we didn't have a bus to catch I would have had a second slice then and there.......... I learned afterwards from Nerms that they sell out quickly! So it seems that the rain that had ruined our other plans was a good thing, because the place was empty when we got there... 緣分. :')

The Earl Grey cake was also good but, like, not something I'd go out of the way and brave the rain for.

God. I'm still thinking about. Her. Imagine, inside... just black sesame goodness through and through... Not too sweet... Not cloying at all... So light... So fluffy... You can eat and eat and still want seconds...

1996 - Hongyu milk tea with cream

My last boba... My favorite one of my trip too because I'm a milk tea girl at my core and this was, in fact, the only milk tea I got in Taipei lol. The recommended sugar level that they indicated on the menu was actually half sugar, but I went with 少 which was simultaneously a touch too sweet and just right for my sweet tooth... I walked too much and ate too little when I was in Taipei so I was craving all the sugar to make up for the caloric deficit. Should've gotten a second one haha.

Borges Place
My friend wanted to try the tiramisu which was apparently well-reviewed; I just wanted something sweet and light.

Some salad with duck, which was just okay.

HONORABLE MENTION to the drink I didn't get:

This is a drink called "Butterbeer" in Dadaochen Bubble Tea (I'd like to emphasize this—it's a boba shop), which appears to have real beer and, perplexingly enough, what Pleco tells me is salted fish roe as a topping? Not really sure what they're going for here. What I mean is, it's not giving Harry Potter, if Harry Potter was the intention. ^^; I am kinda curious, though...

Oh these all look SO GOOD, lucky you and thanks for posting! The scallion pancakes! (although I would've gone for the hot sauce lol). And the sesame noodles and the black chiffon cake...

I think I might have gone to the same scallion pancake shop, maybe. It looks familiar.

Everything looks so yummy and I'm salivating at your description of the black sesame cake!
